KSA Engineers: Lake Tyler Whitehouse Dam Improvements for the City of Tyler

After 65 years of use, the Whitehouse Dam had become porous and structurally unsound. KSA embraced the issue with the goal of mitigating the porosity of the dam with as little impact to the surrounding area as possible. Priorities included finding an innovative way to reinforce the dam without compromising the safety of residents and businesses downstream. A deep soil mixing technique was the most viable solution to the dam’s porosity problem. A traditional trenching machine was modified and repurposed to excavate and simultaneously mix and inject cement and bentonite 50 to 75 feet into the dam, which was a safe and environmentally friendly use of local resources.
