Assessing Risk Management

Halff Associates: Texas Water Development Board FEMA CTP Technical Pilot Project for the Texas Water Development Board

FEMA is implementing the Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk MAP) program across the United States. As a part of the Risk MAP process, the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), in partnership with FEMA, initiated a technical pilot project to gather available data to identify watersheds with the greatest risk and need for MAP products. This effort was TWDB’s first step in formulating a statewide plan. The Halff project team used current statewide data sets to develop a prioritization tool, which began as a GIS/spreadsheet-driven product, but which soon developed into an active-scenario web application. The website allows users to interact with the data, and a map displays the top-50-ranked watersheds with a scoring system.
