Renovating Aged Facilities

Garver: Renovation of Army Radar Approach Control Building at Robert Gray Army Airfield for the City of Killeen

Servicing eight civilian and four military airfields, the Army Radar Approach Control (ARAC) Facility at Robert Gray Army Airfield, Fort Hood, Texas, is one of the U.S. Army’s most complex control facilities. Since the facility had been continuously in use since the 1970s, updates were long overdue. Garver combined multiple disciplines to reconfigure a floor plan with a focus on efficiency and flow. Operations could not cease during renovations, which required the need for a temporary facility to be installed on-site with the cooperation of multiple agencies. The facility did not miss one day of operations throughout the project, which now features all-new appliances that better meet the needs of a facility that operates around the clock.
